Styles of Concrete Floor Polish That Will Work for Your Warehouse

Newly polished floor

When it comes to setting up a warehouse, there are plenty of factors to put into consideration. Lighting, HVAC systems, interior painting, and countless other details that need deciding. One detail that you may not consider is flooring. Sure, concrete flooring is the best way to go, but did you know that the options don't end there? Enter: polished concrete flooring.

Concrete floor polish is relatively cheap to install, more durable than unfinished concrete, and easier to clean as well. Also, it looks modern and professional, which is a definite plus.

With polished concrete flooring, though, comes a question: what is the best style of concrete floor polish?

Here are some of the top options:

Best Styles of Concrete Floor Polish

Cream Polish

To use a somewhat odd metaphor, cream polished concrete is like a bagel: you put the cream right on top. In this option, the surface of a new concrete pour is directly polished.

Since the surface is polished directly, this means you don't have to go through the cutting step of removing the top layer of concrete. This also leaves the natural look of the concrete, with a variation of colors throughout.

Salt and Pepper Concrete Floor Polish

Most warehouses utilize this concrete floor polish, where a top layer of the concrete is removed, allowing for the polish to soak in and connect with the concrete. You may have heard this finish referred to as a "fine aggregate finish".

Since the polish and concrete have interacted with each other, they form a strong bond, meaning the floor will be much stronger than plain unfinished concrete would be. Visually, a salt and pepper finish reflects its name. With speckles of white and black aggregate appearing, a level of depth is achieved in appearance. While a salt and pepper concrete floor polish finish is the most popular finish, it is by no means the only type of aggregate exposure finish.

Large Aggregate Exposure

While salt and pepper polish reveals small speckles of black and white on the floor, a large aggregate finish will reveal much larger aggregate pieces. This finish is usually the most expensive type, as it requires the removal of a quarter of an inch of concrete to get the desired finish. Large aggregate finishes will remove many of the concrete blemishes that other finishes fail to, due to the removal of a large amount of surface concrete. If you're looking for the most attractive floor finish, this may be the one for you.
