We love seeing older spaces transformed, refreshed, and repurposed.
From a historic perspective, it’s nice to have well-used buildings enjoy a fresh lease on life. And, from an economic perspective, it’s always positive to see new local growth in all its diverse forms.
As a prime example, we recently had the privilege of putting our painting team (and skills!) to work during the transformation of the old Fox Industries building. This neighborhood relic in Hampden (near Baltimore) has been an industrial manufacturing workhorse over the decades, housing the production of everything from Noxzema’s skin products to epoxy/resins.
This hard-working facility is now being converted to apartments, all located right near Hampden’s downtown. It’s a new, more laid-back era for this structure!
It’s no secret that every quality painting endeavor starts with thorough preparation.
In this case, a little extra elbow grease was required! The walls were spattered and coated by epoxy resin from its manufacturing days, creating a tough residue to remove before painting.
We scraped and power washed the interior and perimeter walls, using a high-pressure, high-temperature power washer to help with the residue removal process. We then used a specialized shellac primer to create a receptive surface.
This also helped with removing the extremely old paint that was still clinging to the interior. All of these steps laid the foundation for a fresh, total transformation.
And, our work came in on-time, as promised.
Here are a couple of interesting resources that dive a little deeper into the history and future of the Fox Industries building:
